Jeff Crume, a 1984 B.S. computer science graduate, is a world-renowned security expert, serving as a Distinguished Engineer and Executive IT Security Architect for IBM. For more than 30 years, he has served as a trusted advisor in the Internet security space, helping the company’s largest clients develop secure architectures. His leadership and knowledge in the security space make him a popular speaker; he has presented at more than 80 conferences and universities, and represented IBM at more than 40 different countries around the world.His contributions to the field are significant. He has been named an IBM Master Inventor and is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology. In his security-focused role, he holds a variety of industry certifications including Open Group Distinguished Chief IT Architect, CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), and ISSAP (Information Systems Security Architect Professional).Crume is the author of the hit security book (now in its 10th printing), “Inside Internet Security: What Hackers Don’t Want You To Know,” which exposes techniques that hackers use to penetrate network security. He was also contributing author to another book, Information Security Management Handbook and served on the editorial board for the Information Management and Computer Security research journal published out of the UK.Crume is actively engaged with his alma mater, having served on the Computer Science Strategic Advisory Board and the NC State Cyberlaw Board. His passion for developing security awareness has resulted in him guest lecturing at eight different universities. In addition, he leads IBM's worldwide mentoring program for security technical professionals and co-leads IBM's worldwide security architect community.
