Loren Harrell graduated from N.C. State in 1972 as part of one of the Computer Science Department’s first classes. After graduation, Harrell worked for technical companies GTE (now Verizon), General Electric, and SAS. After ten years of working for others, he decided to venture out on his own, launching his first entrepreneurial venture in the early 80s.Now a serial entrepreneur, Harrell has a variety of start-ups to his credit. Business Information Technology, his first startup provided hardware, package and custom software to lawyers, doctors and association management firms. Loren founded SoftPro Corporation in 1984 which was acquired in 2001 by Micro General / Fidelity National Financial (NYSE:FNF). SoftPro remains the nation’s leading provider of real estate closing, title and escrow software. Most recently, Harrell and his son Matt (2000 BS-CSC NCSU) founded MemberHub.com, an online service designed to provide organizations like schools and, PTAs/PTOs, with membership management, collaboration, and fundraising tools that allow them to work more effectively. Harrell has remained involved and engaged with NC State University over the years in a variety of ways, ranging from providing guidance and feedback to entrepreneurial teams with their Sr Design Center projects, to providing MemberHub access to the Ambassadors program, to serving as a member and Chair of the CSC Strategic Advisory Board. Loren says - “I am so grateful for my education at NCSU. I have had a wonderful career as an entrepreneur and software engineer. Undoubtedly, my success as an entrepreneur can be attributed to my education in Computer Science at NC State”.
