Mark Wyatt retired from Duke Energy in 2013 with 34 years of senior management and utility experience. Prior to his retirement from Duke Energy, Mark served as Vice President of Grid Modernization where he was the lead executive for the company’s grid modernization function, which was accountable for delivering enhanced operational efficiencies for the company’s transmission and distribution system, as well as providing a platform for growing the company’s revenue through leveraging grid modernization investments to provide value added products and services to the company’s retail customer base. Mark started with Duke Power in 1980 in the information management department. He moved to the distribution department several years later, where he was responsible for the deployment of common business processes and supporting technology that enhanced the effectiveness of engineering, construction and operations functions within the department. Following this assignment, he experienced a series of promotions within the company through assignments in the retail customer services, transmission, distribution, generation, unregulated business operations and information technology areas. Mark has been a member of several advisory boards throughout his career, including the Computer Science Strategic Advisory Board at NC State University, UNC Charlotte’s College of Informatics Advisory Board, the North Carolina Technology Association, the Customer Services (CS) Week board of directors, Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont board of directors and Board Chair for Envision Charlotte, a nonprofit organization focused on driving energy, waste, water and air efficiency opportunities within the metropolitan area of Charlotte, NC. Mark currently serves as Board Chair for a nonprofit organization (Start Over) that provides aid to the homeless community in Charlotte and Durham, NC.Mark received his B.S. degree in Computer Science from NC State University in 1980. Mark is passionate about making NC State a better place through his time, talent and philanthropy. In addition to his work on the CSC Strategic Advisory Board, he has been instrumental in helping to engage alumni in the Charlotte area with the College of Engineering through the Charlotte Engagement Committee. Mark and Robin continue to pay it forward for current and future students through their scholarship, The Mark and Robin Wyatt Scholarship Endowment. In addition to their NC State endowed scholarship, Mark and Robin have similar endowments at Appalachian State University and the Foundation For The Carolinas for first generation college students who are interested in the field of computer science or computer engineering.
